Make Me Effective
I pray that the peace I have found will make me effective. I pray that I may be relieved of frustration during the day. (Alan L. Roeck, Look To This Day, 16 August)

Integrity
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that You will surround me with people who will encourage me to live according to Your word, people who will hold me accountable to maintain integrity in every area of my life. And give me the wisdom and courage to be this kind of friend to others. (Kay Arthur, Search My Heart, O God, 23 August)

Wisdom
Lord, I am not wise enough to choose my own paths today. Let me be wise enough to listen to your voice among other believers. (The Upper Room Disciplines - 2006, 15 August)

Promptings of the Inner Voice
I pray for willingness to follow the promptings of the inner voice. (Food For Thought, 1 August)

Pray Every Hour
You should pray every hour. The most necessary and the most difficult form of prayer is to remember -- in spite of the numerous distractions of life -- your obligations to God, to his law. You become scared, you become upset, you become embarrassed, you become too involved or distracted by something. But you should always remember who you are and what you should do. This is what a real prayer should be about. This is difficult in the beginning, but with time you can work and create this habit. (Leo Tolstoy, A Calendar of Wisdom, 21 August)

All Is Well
I pray that I may feel deeply that all is well. I pray that nothing will be able to move me from that deep conviction. (Alan L. Roeck, Look To This Day, 7 August)

Do You Pray?
Do you pray? Prayer is a powerful tool to be used not only occasionally, but throughout the entire day. Every time you experience any emotion, be it happiness, gratitude, sadness, or compassion, take the time to say a prayer of thanks or send a blessing to whoever is in need. Prayer is another way to ask for help when needing guidance. Prayers are answered through your thoughts. Thought creates. What you think, your mind will grant you. ... Make Prayer a Part of Your Daily Life
Photo: Aztech New Media
I will start today to make prayer a part of my daily life. These are prayers of my making, not memorized ones written by someone else, simply a conversation of blessings and gratitude to the voice within that is my connection to the greater whole. As I release positive energy outside of myself, I become closer to the core, which is my soul. To reach the soul within me is my greatest quest. Spiritual Progress

... spiritual progress comes as a gift, not as an achievement. (Touchstones, 27 July)
The church "happens" when a company of believers seek the face of God. The church happens when the faith community seeks to restore the image of God in its unlikely neighbors. (Glory E. Dharmaraj in The Upper Room Disciplines - 2006, 13 July)

They Needed to Hear It!
I heard a story about a man who never misses a worship service. After each service, he tells the pastor, "You told them! They needed to hear it." One service he's the only person at church. The pastor happens to have prepared a sermon about humility. When the service ends the man tells the pastor, "Too bad they didn't come. They needed to hear it." (Ciona D. Rouse in The Upper Room Disciplines - 2006, 5 August)

The Wonderful Gift of My Spouse

Thank You for the wonderful gift of my spouse. I believe You placed us together so that we could bring each other comfort and strength as You refine and mold each of us into the image of Your Son. Help me today to be sensitive to my spouse's needs and to meet them with gracious selflessness. (Kay Arthur, Search My Heart, O God, 25 July)

Cleanse Us From Secret Faults
Photo: Mr. Dickie (Melva's peony)
Do not let any unwholsome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29 (NIV), Daily Guideposts - 2006, 10 July)
I pray that I may never obstruct the flow of life forces I need by preventing God from entering my life. I pray that my faith and trust remains strong. (Alan L. Roeck, Look To This Day, 17 July)
Cleanse us from secret faults. Keep us from presumptuous resentments. Let them not have dominion over us. (Alan L. Roeck, Look To This Day, 28 July)

Being on Purpose
Photo: Aztech New Media
You should strive for a union between your purposes in life and the purposes of the Divine Principle directing the universe. There is no bond of union on earth to compare with the union between a human soul and God. Priceless beyond all earth's rewards is that union. In merging your heart and mind with the Higher Power, you experience a oneness of purpose that puts you in harmony with God and all others who are trying to do His will. (Alan L. Roeck, Look To This Day, 3 August)
